  • The tools they send are no good, as already indicated by the other reviews. Maybe I’d blame that on Apple for making a product that’s difficult to service, but either way they could try to make a tool that doesn’t break so easily. I had to use a knife to open the ipod, and bent the ipod to the point that it was difficult to close.

The other problem is that the directions they send with this thing are complete garbage, and led me to ruin my headphone jack. The directions tell you to use a screwdriver to loosen the wire that attaches the headphone jack to the soundboard (or whatever it’s called). This does make it easy to remove the headphone jack wire, but it also causes you to easily ruin the mount’s tiny soldering job, and renders your ipod useless, unless you want a $300 external hard drive. Don’t buy this thing. It’s not worth the trouble. I wouldn’t even recommend an ipod. You can’t get them serviced unless you buy the warranty, or want to ship it to them. This is my second ipod, and I will not buy another. They don’t make a product that’s serviceable.

  • I waited a whole month (due to backorder) for this battery, so I was anxious to finally get my iPod working again. Much to my surprise, this battery was defective before even reaching my hands and did not charge at ALL, even after an experienced technician installed it. Spend a little extra money and buy a battery that works.

  • Rich:

Nice price and arrived quickly, clamshell package was the easy open type – I hate the completely sealed ones. Included a tool to open the ipod case, this worked ok.

Battery itself took about 10 seconds to replace. There was no replacement sticky pad to hold the new battery in position, but there was enough remnants of gunk from the old one to do the job.

Overall pretty pleased, and I’ve gained 70mAh over the original battery – my 5 year old video ipod now working like new!

  • It’s early, but the battery seems to be working as advertised, so that’s good. The tools are a joke–I would pay $50 to see someone use these tools to actually open the ipod. The ipod is incredibly difficult to open without damaging it. In retrospect I should have searched around the internet for opening help or taken it to someone who does this kind of thing for a living. Here is my advice: before you order this battery, open your ipod and see if it is worth it.

  • The plastic tool that comes in this kit fell apart in five seconds, not sturdy at all. Finally used a screwdriver to pop the back off. After that it was a piece of cake. Battery went in great. I have used it for over two months now and have only needed to charge it twice. Very happy with the battery!
